Disaster Paramedic - PRN - Center for Emergency Services
To provide optimum critical/emergency care to sick or injured
patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to UMMC or other
Education & Experience
High school diploma/GED and completion of CAHEA or CAHEP
EMT-paramedic program plus three (3) years of related pre-hospital
experience. Individual must be able to lift a patient weighing 250
pounds onto a stretcher and to carry said patient and stretcher for
a minimum of fifty (50) feet and load patient and stretcher into a
helicopter or other vehicle, with the help of other provider.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: valid driver's
license, certification as NREMTP (National Registered Paramedic)
and MS Paramedic required. Certifications in basic life support,
advanced cardiac life support, NIMS (ICS 100 and 700).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the information and techniques necessary to identify,
diagnose and treat injuries and disease for adult, pediatric and
neonatal patients. Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and
techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care for
inter-facility and scene transports. Verbal and written
communication skills. Ability to provide physical and psychological
treatment and comfort. Ability to work calmly under stressful
conditions. Ability to withstand exposure to noise, external
weather conditions and high altitudes. Willingness to travel State
or Nation wide for extended periods of time.
* Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients. Monitors
patient condition during transport and adverse reactions to drugs
* Maintains, sterilizes and cleans medical equipment to ensure the
safety of patients in accordance with UMMC standards and
* Collaborates in the maintenance and revision safety
* Ensures regulatory compliance of patient care provided during
transport. Prepares and maintains applicable reports and
* Performs triage and initial patient assessment in collaboration
with other healthcare providers.
* Performs resuscitation, airway management, vascular access and
other procedures in accordance with the paramedic ALS scope of
practice under the direction of a physician.
* Transports and moves patients in-hospital, across campus and
off-campus as needed.

radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne
particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate
attention to safety considerations, constant working hours
significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, frequent travelling
to offsite locations, constant activities subject to significant
volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work
produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality,
frequent bending, frequent lifting and carrying more than 100
pounds, frequent climbing, frequent crawling, frequent
crouching/stooping, frequent driving, frequent kneeling, frequent
pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent
standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up
