Title: Manager-MS Poison Control Center Job Summary: Assists with
the management and direction of the Mississippi Poison Control
Center. Education & Experience Education and Experience Required:
Graduate of an approved nurse practitioner, physician assistant
program with national certification, or Pharm D from an accredited
School of Pharmacy. One year of post-graduate clinical experience.
Certifications, Licenses, or Registration Required: If Pharm D,
licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi or eligible for licensure.
Possession of a controlled substance license or eligible for
licensure. Must be licensed prior to hire date. If NP or PA,
Mississippi NP or PA license or eligible for Mississippi NP or PA
license. Must obtain nurse practitioner certification from the
Mississippi board of nursing prior to hire date, or licensure as a
physician assistant in Mississippi and PANCE certification by the
National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
(NCCPA). Preferred Qualifications: Prefer minimum one-year of ICU
or emergency medicine experience. Prefer certification by the
American Board of Applied Toxicology or board prepared and eligible
for the certification examination. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent leadership and
communication skills and judgement required, as well as a strong
knowledge of medical diagnosis and toxicology. Excellent computer
skills required. Responsibilities Assesses the educational and
training needs of the assigned clinical area. Designs and
implements continuing education and training programs for assigned
staff. Collaborates with team members and external agencies or
healthcare providers in the care of poisoned patients and
identifies opportunities for improvement. Performs, presents, and
prepares case reviews and after-action reports for dissemination as
needed. Manages nursing and ancillary personnel within the assigned
area or unit by coaching, educating, consulting, training, and
evaluating performance. Ensures personnel adhere to quality
standards for patient care and customer satisfaction. Organizes and
participates in public and professional education, awareness, and
prevention activities. In collaboration with the medical and
managing directors, develops assessment, treatment, transfer, and
follow-up protocols for case management. Oversees implementation of
protocols and ensures staff compliance and proper use. Plans,
schedules, and organizes work within the assigned area or unit to
ensure appropriate staffing, efficient use of personnel, and
effective utilization of space and facilities. Actively engages in
ongoing quality improvement and research initiatives to advance the
delivery of clinical care and secures Poison Center funding through
grant acquisition. Responds to incoming poison control calls from
the general public and healthcare professionals. Assesses
information, estimates potential risk, and determines whether
referral to a healthcare facility is necessary. Provides healthcare
facilities with guidance on medical risk and management using
established protocols and computerized information resources. The
