Staining includes routine and special stains. This job profile may require call subject to the department's discretion. Education & Experience Education and Experience Required: Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) with one (1) year of experience in histopathology. Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: N/A Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to properly orient, embed, and cut tissue using microtome and cryostat. Understanding of tissue processing. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members. Computer and related software application skills. Ability to maintain accurate records. Responsibilities Orients and embeds tissue in paraffin per standardized methods. Freezes, orients, embeds, and cuts fresh tissue. Uses microtome and/or cryostat to perform microtome on tissue specimens to exacting measures of acceptability. Files cassettes. Performs routine and special stains. Labels and distributes slides to pathologists. Files slides. Performs and documents equipment maintenance and quality control measures. Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
