BASIC POSITION SUMMARY:

The overall purpose of the Network Systems Engineer is to provide support for the provisioning and maintenance of broadband communication services and systems. This position requires strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills, attention to detail, advanced intellectual knowledge of the communications industry and Company concepts, practices, and procedures. Use of excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, is critical to being successful as a TEC Network Systems Engineer. The person in this position relies on extensive experience and sound judgement perform the functions of the job. The Network Systems Engineer will perform a variety of tasks and must successfully use of a wide range of creativity and latitude.

The Network Systems Engineer is expected to adhere to regulations, Company policies, and values, and represent themselves and the Company in a positive and productive manner. This position requires the ability to interact and communicate in a professional, effective manner, both in writing and verbally, with customers, co-workers, supervisors/managers, and members of management.

Adherence to all standard operating procedures, safe work practices as found in the TEC Safety Handbook, and OSHA guidelines is essential to promote safety of all employees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The essential job functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by the company.

  • Travel for Company related business using a personal vehicle or a company vehicle is required, therefore, a valid personal driver's license and adequate insurance coverage on the personal vehicle is required at all times. When applicable, a valid commercial driver's license may be required, as well.
  • Support the provisioning and maintenance of internet protocol (IP) based devices, networks, and internet services provided to client companies and their customers.
  • Monitor and maintain switches, devices, and equipment used in the deployment of IP, Active Ethernet, GPON/XPON, DSL and broadband access services.
  • Provide remote and onsite training for broadband, IP, and communications services to client companies and their customers.
  • Interact with TEC carriers and service providers.
  • Administer, develop, and refine internal inventory and resource management tools and processes.
  • Support sales and marketing efforts of LECNet, Inc. and its client companies. Support sales and marketing processes including proposals and interaction with customers for technical matters.

    Requirements

    Education/Experience: High school diploma, or GED required. A Bachelor of Science in related disciplines (i.e., Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, and Management Information Systems) is strongly preferred. Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Certified Network Professional certificates preferred. A minimum of two (2) years' experience in related fields (i.e., Systems Engineering) preferred. Formal educational training (i.e., college or vocational) may be considered and applied as work experience.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The Network Systems Engineer must possess strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills and an attention to detail. Use of excellent verbal and written communication skills in an efficient, professional manner is required.

    The person in this position must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers. The Network Systems Engineer must have the ability to quickly adapt to changes in processes, requirements, goals, and organizational change as well as, possess the ability to be flexible, to multi-task, and to handle multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    The Network Systems Engineer is expected to be proficient in the use of a personal computer and with the operations systems used by TEC such as for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. An understanding of internet protocol (IP) addressing standards as well as, Active Ethernet, GPON/XPON, broadband services, digital subscriber line (DSL), etc. along with a basic understanding of hypertext markup language (HTML), hypertext reprocessor (PHP), cascading style sheets (CSS), JavaScript, AJAX, MySQL, Perl, Python is preferred.
