Characteristics of Work


This is technical and administrative work performed under the direct supervision of the transportation director. Work involves ensuring that the fleet of vehicles is maintained in a safe and operational condition. The incumbent assists the transportation director with ensuring that customers are transported to and from their destinations by adjusting schedules and reconfiguring drivers' route assignments when needed. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating activities related to transporting passengers, training drivers, and orienting drivers to applicable policies and procedures impacting transportation. The incumbent adjusts schedules as necessary to ensure adequate coverage of applicable routes. In addition, the incumbent communicates by telephone and radio with drivers to ensure that essential functions of their positions are carried out in a timely manner and ensure the performance of routine maintenance on the fleet. The incumbent will oversee all daily activities in the absence of the transportation director.
