Job Summary:
Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the School of Business will provide academic and administrative leadership for the School, develop current and future programs, engage in activities to increase undergraduate and graduate student enrollment, and provide effective management for the School of Business. Dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service, the Dean is expected to cultivate strong alumni and external relationships to support and grow the School; increase the fundraising capacity of the School; have a vision to expand the School of Business as a strong academic center in the region with the experience and ability to support and implement innovative instruction appropriate for a twenty-first century university; will collaboratively create and implement both short-and long-term strategic goals consistent with the university's mission and vision; and, will supervise and implement assessment and accreditation standards and initiatives, including separate specialized accreditation.

In addition to promoting the mission through research and service, the Dean will be responsible for managing and directing the School's fiscal plan, budgets and all general administration. The Dean will also serve as a contributing member of the Provost's future-directed, student-centric Executive Leadership Team and the Deans' Council.

The candidate must have a proven record of academic and professional achievement, commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate/professor in the School of Business.
Essential Job Functions :
The Dean is responsible to the Provost for the recruitment, appointment, reappointment/retention, promotion, and tenure of the Alcorn School of Business faculty.

The Dean will work through the established promotion, tenure, rank, and leave process of the University and is responsible for maintaining its integrity.

The Dean will orient new faculty (both regular rank and non-regular rank) to University policies and procedures.

The Dean will work with the Chair of the undergraduate and MBA programs in the context of strategic plans to ensure the highest standards of scholarship is maintained among the faculty.

The Dean will provide budgetary and administrative oversight of all academic programs.

The Dean will represent the University to important constituencies, including various national and international groups.

The Dean will be responsible for developing and implementing curriculum.

The Dean will promote the School's external; visibility to all relevant constituencies.

The Dean will have an aggressive agenda in the establishment of effective Centers of Excellence, serving primarily as think-tanks, focusing on innovative solutions for key business-related challenges.

Through strategic and insightful leadership, the Dean will expand the external funding from contracts and grants and ensure the successful viability of such Centers to promote partnerships among faculty, business enterprises, external sponsors and alumni for productive collaboration, research and ongoing placement of students.

With strong industry ties, the Dean will actively be engaged in the community and will create a diverse Industry Advisory Board.

In addition, the Dean will collaborate with the university's Institutional Advancement Office and leadership to seek and secure significant ongoing commitments and funds from corporate and private support to sustain the anticipated growth of the School and enhance student learning experiences through discovery and application.

As the position is external-facing for business education on campus and in the region, the Dean will be expected to have excellent interpersonal and strong written and oral communication skills with a display of openness, integrity, a spirit of collaboration and a commitment to shared governance.

The Dean must direct and support faculty during the faculty lifecycle of talent acquisition, tenure, promotion, and performance evaluation.

Through thoughtful/careful nurturing and mentoring, the Dean will develop both the individual and collective thinking towards significant academic contributions.

The Dean provides oversight for the undergraduate and masters programs which currently serve over 320 students with a substantial expected growth to meet the new and growing business needs of the region and the state.

Other Duties:

To be successful in this appointment, the Dean of the Alcorn School of Business must be:

an intellectual leader among the faculty who can be expected to have the highest aspirations in faculty hiring and retention, advancement, training, and ongoing professional development hiring and retention

a conscientious administrator broadly familiar with issues in higher education and with strong linkages to the business community

a strong advocate for the Alcorn School of Business and its teaching mission in University's strategic commitment to its land-grant legacy as an effective fund-raiser
Qualifications:
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An earned doctorate in a business discipline or economics from accredited school;

Experience with AACSB and/or AACSB accreditation;

Demonstrated effectiveness in management of fiscal resources;

Demonstrated experience in fundraising and resource development;

Experience in building and sustaining positive external relationships; Strong fundraising and sponsored programming experience;

Knowledge of national and internal trends in higher education business; Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;

Strong experience with SACS accreditation standards;

Commitment to transparency and discussion in leadership/management style; Commitment to the land-grant mission of public-HBCU;

Significant academic leadership experience, including experience at the level of Department Chair, associate dean, or above;

Ability to articulate the collegiate goals and vision to internal and external constituents;

Strong leadership ability in strategic planning and motivational skills;

Experience with graduate education and online delivery modalities;

Experience with student outcome assessment and use of data in decision-making;

Ability to work collaboratively with leadership of the other colleges and units on campus in order to achieve the university mission; and,

A record of scholarly achievement justifying appointment at the rank of Associate/Professor.

A demonstrated track record of articulating imagination through vision, innovation and strategic direction in transforming a unit, department, school or college.

Evidence of excellence in teaching, research and scholarship and distinction in professional achievements and partnerships with business enterprises appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor in the School of Business.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of the impact of blended learning on students is an advantage.

Administrative experience as department chair, associate dean or equivalent level with involvement in fiscal planning & budgets, ability to lead and manage faculty, other stakeholders and programs and engage students with transparency is preferred.

The successful candidate will have a record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across programs, students, faculty and staff of the School.

A collaborative, servant leader with undisputable integrity and courage engaging the university, business and community to develop mutually beneficial partnerships for students is desired.

Manifestation of effectiveness in written and oral communication is an additional preference.
