Reconstruction US is seeking Instructors -or as we call them Reconstructors -to help redefine education for young leaders specifically in Jackson, MS.Who We Are: is a startup looking to change the way the world thinks about curriculum and community. We are focused on delivering a K-12 supplemental curriculum that situates Black people, Black culture, and Black contributions to American and world history in an authentic, identity-affirming way so that students of all backgrounds benefit from a more complete understanding of our shared history and society. Our growing company is seeking to hire Reconstructors -who will redefine education for young leaders.As a start-up company, we are looking for team members who:

• Most importantly, possess incredible interpersonal skills to effectively connect, inspire, and help build a cohesive team, and are great team players who others want on their teamWhat You'll Do:Reconstruction Instructors build relationships and teach an authentic curriculum illustrating the brilliance, resilience, and magic of the Black Community in service of promoting positive identity formation and academic growth with their students. Our instructors challenge students to meet higher expectations, create an environment that feels more exciting than a classroom, and empower students to use what they've learned to improve themselves and their communities. Instructors work remotely via video conference with small groups of approximately 6 students at a time. Reconstruction offers classes year-round and Reconstructors teach based on their availability.Instructors will:
  • Work from curricular materials to both enrich and supplement what students are learning in school. -
  • Work with students to support academic, social-emotional, and identity development -
  • Create a culture that is both nurturing and rigorous for all students. -
  • Develop a community of learners who learn collaboratively and demonstrate a shared responsibility for each other's success www.reconstruction.us -
  • Work to understand, acknowledge, and incorporate the strengths, cultures, and prior knowledge of their students to further contextualize the culture and learning of their small group. -
  • Foster social interactions that ensure students feel a part of a collective effort to showcase academic and cultural excellence. -
  • Implement the lesson sequence during each session. Example format for illustrative purposes only: Social-Emotional Meet-and-Greet, Watch Instructional Video, Facilitated Practice and Feedback, Closing Activity. -
  • At the start of each session or unit, instructors familiarize themselves with the content by reviewing materials, completing the work that students will do and reviewing provided plans.Who You Are: You want to make a practical contribution to a more just and more equal society. We are looking for instructors who are: -
    • Aligned with Reconstruction's beliefs and approach.
    • Able to demonstrate a deep cultural affinity for and understanding of Black children and build meaningful relationships with students.
    • Knowledgeable and excited about our curricular content focused on Black culture and Black contributions to American and world history.
    • Organized, prepared, and deeply reflective.

      • Time Commitment: Minimum 2 hours per week
      • Compensation: $20 per hour

      • Location: Flexible, Jackson, MSImportant Role Expectations:Elementary school sessions take place Monday through Friday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm central time.Middle school sessions take place Tuesday through Thursday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm central. -January 2023 start date. -Hours and days subject to change.Technology Requirements: Instructors need access to personal computers with audio and video and an internet connection speed that will support video conferencing via Zoom.
