Job Title:

Boiler Operator I-Physical Facilities

Job Summary:

To operate and assist in maintaining stationary engines, boilers, and other mechanical equipment to provide utilities for buildings. To record relevant events and facts concerning the operation and maintenance of equipment.

Education & Experience

Three (3) years of related experience.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Valid Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of boiler plant operations. Skill in the use of tools equipment and supplies applicable to trade. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to assess condition and proper function of equipment. Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

* Monitors equipment and records operating characteristics and level readings to include pressure and temperature.
* Coordinates equipment operations. Starts up and shuts down boilers upon request.
* Inspects equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems. Analyses problems and takes appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems.
* Monitors safety/back-up equipment and ensures they are in proper working condition.
* Maintains daily logs of operations, maintenance and safety activities, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
* Complies with applicable safety procedures.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
