Job Summary:

The Manager, Analytical Chemistry, is responsible for leading daily activity of the Corporate Technical Service laboratory and provide support to Lab Supervisors at all site labs. This position works closely with the Quality Manager and with site engineers to troubleshoot process and product quality issues. This role is responsible for timely laboratory analysis of samples submitted by each site, distribution facilities and customers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading the Technical Service Lab daily operations
  • Recommends vendor selection for all high-end Capital-justified analytical chemistry instruments in site labs including Gas Chromatographs, Spectrophotometers and Spectrometers
  • Responsible for leading in new analytical chemistry methods development and harmonization across site laboratories while coordinating projects with vendors in proposing new analytical methods
  • Supports Engineers with process analysis and special sample requests
  • Supports all site laboratories with new Methods Development and Harmonization
  • Supports all site laboratories with Instrumentation troubleshooting, training in operation, methods implementation
  • Supports Sales with special customer analytical requests as necessary
  • Reports and communicates progress on each major area of responsibility to management

Internal Controls:

Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements. Ensures that established processes/procedures are followed as designed. Works with Internal Controls Department to identify deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, the need for new ones, and the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed. Develops and implements corrective actions with regard to department internal controls as necessary.

Successful incumbents will have:
  • Masters or PhD, Chemistry
  • 1-3 years' experience in Analytical Chemistry leadership role
  • Expert level analytical chemistry skills in multiple areas including spectroscopy, chromatography, Qualitative and Quantitative analysis, including data analysis with fluency in statistical techniques
  • Ability to lead a team of chemistry professionals to achieve departmental goals
  • Ability to develop, qualify and implement new and innovating analytical methods across multiple CF manufacturing lab sites.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal team building skills
  • Knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn to use) Lab Information Management tools

Position Scope/Contribution:

This position is located in Yazoo City, MS with expectations to travel throughout North America to perform necessary job functions. This position will routinely interact with site lab supervisors to resolve analytical chemistry problems at their respective sites, identify and implement new and improved analytical methods, and coordinate activity with contract analytical chemistry labs as necessary.

Travel requirement: 10% North America, predominately to CF manufacturing, DF and/or customer sites.
