of Business and Professional Studies Status Full Time Job
Description Upper Iowa University seeks an innovative, decisive,
collegial and experienced leader to serve as Dean of the School of
Business and Professional Studies. The Dean will work in
collaboration with the faculty, other school deans, and the Vice
President for Academic and Student Affairs to lead, inspire and
elevate the School of Business to its next level of growth,
innovation and distinction. The School of Business and Professional
Studies includes the business majors, health services
administration major, information and systems technology majors,
the RN- BSN program, and the master's programs of Business
Administration and Sports Administration. All programs are offered
online; some majors are offered at the Fayette campus in a
traditional classroom and at institutional centers as hybrid
(face-to-face with online components). The Dean of the School of
Business and Professional Studies reports to the Vice-President of
Academic and Student Affairs and collaborates with deans of the
other schools. The Dean is responsible for the quality of academic
programs, the faculty and staff within the school, building and
maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, strengthening
the visibility of programs, and aligning the priorities of the
school with the university. The Dean is a visionary leader for the
School. Strategic priorities for the new Dean include articulating
a vision that will make the School the gold standard for business
education and developing a data driven plan to achieve it;
introducing academic programs that address the needs of students
and the marketplace and add to the school--s distinctiveness;
supporting and developing the faculty through strategic hires and
nurturing the strong spirit of collegiality and shared purpose that
already exists; collaborating with the business community to
develop internships and career opportunities and secure financial
resources; advocating for the school within the university and
externally; growing enrollment; and modeling and advancing the
University--s strong commitment to diversity, inclusion and student
success. Responsibilities and expectations of the Dean A. Manage
the budget of the School to support the resource needs of the
school.
B. Direct the strategic planning initiatives for the school,
thinking strategically and articulating the strategic vision for
the school.
C. Promote curriculum development and revision, course delivery
planning, and course scheduling processes for all modalities.
D. Oversee faculty and staff hiring, evaluation, and development.
Direct reports include program chairs, directors, and staff.
E. Develop and monitor procedures for coordinating the activities
of faculty and staff in the school.
F. Provide leadership in creating and sustaining an environment
that enhances the University's commitment to diversity.
G. Direct the strategic planning initiatives for the school,
including program review and new program development.
H. Integrate protocol for student recruitment and retention.
I. Represent and promote the school to both internal and external
stakeholders.
J. Partner with advancement professionals in fund-raising
activities,
K. Stay current with technological developments as they pertain to
the academic environment.
L. Exemplify professionalism, integrity and leadership behaviors
that will reflect positively on the school at all times.
M. Promote scholarship, professional growth, innovation, service to
the University, grant development, and community engagement
especially as related to undergraduate teaching and learning.
Required Qualifications Reporting directly to the Vice President of
Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean must possess the
following:
--- A passion for academic excellence, innovation and student
success
--- A minimum of a master's degree in business, nursing, or related
field within the school;
--- Strong management experience (in business or in their area of
expertise) building working relationships with organizations.
--- Be a proven administrator and knowledgeable in personnel and
fiscal management;
--- Be an effective communicator in both verbally and written
communication;
--- Demonstrated capacity and experience creating successful and
innovative programs;
--- Demonstrated leadership skills;
--- Teaching experience that includes traditional and online
modalities;
--- Adept at using data to inform decision-making
--- Skill in balancing the objectives of shared governance with a
bias for action and progression Preferred Qualifications ---
Experience at the dean level;
--- Terminal degree;
--- Accreditation experience ( HLC , ACBSP , and/or CCNE );
--- A record of successful work with the business community and
fundraising
--- Successful grant writing and administration experience.
Physical Demands --- Subject to standing, walking, sitting,
bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
--- Work is routinely performed in an office environment.
--- Evenings, weekends and extended work days are often
expected.
--- Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds. Location
