Main Campus Jackson Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant-
Mississippi Burn Center- Full Time Job Summary: To assist the
nursing staff in the rendering of patient care by providing direct
and indirect patient care under the guidance and direction of the
registered nurse and in accordance with UMMC policy and nursing
practice laws and regulations. To perform clerical/receptionist
responsibilities and tasks as assigned. To provide patient care to
psychologically impaired or emotionally disturbed individuals under
the direction of a charge nurse or nurse manager in accordance with
the institutional policies and procedures. Must be able to lift,
reposition and transport patients, linen carts, dietary trays and
other equipment using proper body mechanics. Education & Experience
No experience required. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION
REQUIRED: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the Mississippi
State Department of Health required; CPR (Heartsaver or BLS)
required within 90 days of employment. Knowledge, Skills &
Abilities Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to
provide patient care and services. Ability to react calmly in
emergency situations. Knowledge of medical terminology. Skill in
use of personal computers and related software applications.
Interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to input and
verify pc data. RESPONSIBILITIES Performs all duties of a hospital
tech, which include but are not limited to the collection and
recording of vital signs, activities of daily living, turning
patients, linen changes Performs a wide range of clerical duties
which may include scheduling appointments and arranging
transportation for patients. Collects and delivers specimens and
supplies to appropriate locations within the acceptable time frames
as directed. Cleans and assembles equipment. Appropriately charges
for supplies/equipment and reports equipment in need of repair to
nurse manager. Performs venipuncture, blood glucose testing, and
point of care testing in accordance with established procedures.
Performs computerized EKGs according to policy and procedure and
provides copies for the patient's chart and the heart station.
Assists the RN in meeting patient's elimination needs by performing
urinary catheter removal, administering enemas, and by emptying
bedpans, foleys, and ostomies. Operates sterilization equipment and
performs sterilization on instruments including identification and
packaging. The duties listed are general in nature and are examples

Environmental Demands Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or
disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and
exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with

borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or
caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations,
occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled
hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional
activities subject to significant volume changes of a
seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to
precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending,
occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional
crawling, frequent crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling,
frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, occasional sitting,
constant standing, frequent twisting, and constant walking.
