Job Description Job Description Position: RN Department: 3W Job Summary Provides quality care that is dependent on physician order or through independent nursing interventions based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs. Promotes restorative health and/or supportive care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Professional Responsibilities: Adheres to scope of RN practice as outlined by the MS Board of Nursing, regulatory standards and hospital policy Maintains profession and technical knowledge and pursues professional growth opportunities Supervises and supports the LPN, Nursing Assistant, Nurse Tech, Behavior Health Techs and student Serves as positive role model and in the preceptor role for new staff and students Keeping access to protected health information secure and confidential Collaborates with physician and multidisciplinary team to address patient needs Appropriately seeks help or guidance from supervisor or other resource people Adapts to change and prioritizes work Demonstrates reliable attendance, reports on time and is ready to work at beginning of shift Completes assigned duties, willingly accepts assignments and assist others to complete work on time Willing to support unit’s staffing needs by occasionally adjusting work schedule, staying late or working extra Establishes a safe, compassionate, caring environment for patients and their family Establishes a safe, supportive work environment that promotes teamwork Core Duties: Coordinates patient care by scheduling, consulting and organizing patient activities Performs admission and ongoing patient assessment and responds appropriately to findings Establishes a Plan of Care for each patient to address acute physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Promotes patient engagement by considering specific needs, values and preferences Establishes care goals, teaches patient/family about health conditions, medications, and self-care skills Develops discharge plan individualized for patient/ family needs that prevents hospital re-admissions Accurately and completely documents assessments and nursing care in the patient’s medical record Promotes continuity of care by reporting activities, incidences, and changing patient needs to next caregiver Demonstrates infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing and use of appropriate PPEs Adheres to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting and monitoring meds Recognizes safety risk and implements prevention plan for falls, skin breakdown and injury Contributes to the department’s performance improvement activities Demonstrates competency in performance of clinical skills Education and Experience Current RN license by the Mississippi Board of Nursing Must be able to read, write, understand verbal and written communication Preferred Qualifications CPR or ACLS Certification Essential Skill Competencies: Body system assessment Phlebotomy: Establish IV access Safe blood administration Medication monitoring Preventive skin care Chest tube care Aseptic wound care/ dressing change Foley catheter insertion/care Advanced skills specific to individual units will be monitored for competency during orientation Working Conditions Frequently Continuously Sit, Walk, Seeing (Visual), Stand, Reach, Listening, Lift, Carry, Simple Grasping, Squat, Distinguishing colors, Bend Body, Fluids, Kneel, Firm Grasping, Climbing Stairs, Forearm Rotation, Hazardous Materials, Lifting up to 10lbs, Lifting 10-50lbs, Carrying Up to 10lbs, Lifting > 50lbs with assistance, Push on wheels Up to 200lbs, Carrying 10 to 20lbs, Use of Wheelchair, Push on wheels 200-400lbs, Use of Stretcher, Pulling Up to 350lbs with assistance Use of Carts, Use of Computer Exposure Classifications : High exposure risk
