Job Description Description: The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical
Center is seeking Emergency Medicine Board Certified or Board
Eligible Physicians to provide 24/7 Emergency Department Physician
Services starting 1 June 2023 at a Joint Commission accredited
facility serving Veterans in Mississippi and parts of Louisiana.
The VA Medical Center is located in Jackson, Mississippi. Steeped
in southern culture, Jackson is home to a multitude of world-class
painters, sculptors, dancers, actors, architects, photographers,
filmmakers, musicians, and artisans of many disciplines. The city
pulses with music from classical to inspirational, home-grown
gospel, blues, jazz, rock 'n roll, R&B and more that can be
found all around town. Beautifully changing seasons offer numerous
fall and holiday events rich with tradition, surprising spring
flings for shaking off winter's chill, and laid-back summer
celebrations that detour off the fast lane. Major Duties and
Responsibilities:- Provide direct care to patients in the Emergency
Department.- Provide clinical guidance to Advanced Registered Nurse
Practitioners (ARNP)/Physician Assistants (PA).- Prescribe
appropriate treatments, initiate appropriate work up to determine
diagnoses, properly admits and/ or discharges patients based on
evaluation, orders appropriate consultations as needed for care.-
Evaluate the patient to assess changes in the physical and mental
status and addresses changes in a timely manner.- Assist patients
in coordinating continued care after the ER visit by referrals to
specialty care/ primary care for follow up.- Serve as a backup for
Clinical Contact Center Tele-Urgent Care Clinic.- Participate in
interdisciplinary team activities to achieve optimum quality of
patient care that us maintained or improved.- Participate in the
progressive improvement of the service delivery which may include
programmatic participation in initiatives within the facility.-
Serve on service level and/ or facility committees as needed and
participating in the facility peer review program.- Take an active
role in education and in the evaluation of the patient, deciding
treatment/care options along with documenting in the Computerized
Patient Record System (CPRS) as well as the use of the Emergency
Department Integration Software (EDIS).- Actively participates in
compliance readiness activities as requested by Quality Management,
ER Director and the ACOS Medicine.- Other duties as assigned. Work
Schedule: Negotiable (80 hours total per pay period), may be
variable tour, and rotating shifts may apply; subject to change,
depending on the needs of the Medical Center and Emergency
Department. Requirements: Basic Requirements:United States
CitizenshipDegree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree
resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic
medicine. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice
medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the
United States, or in the District of Columbia.Must have a full
unrestricted license in any of the 50 states, extensive Emergency
Department experience within the VA system, have a solid working
knowledge of the Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS) and
must have experience using the Emergency Department Integration
Software (EDIS) system. Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Additional Requirement:If not currently board certified in
Emergency Medicine, selectee must have current Basic Life Support
(BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
Preferences:- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Emergency Medicine,
Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.- Emergency Room experience
preferred.- Other Board Eligible/Board Certified may be considered
with appropriate Emergency Room experience documented. Physical

others- Protracted or irregular hours of work. Education Degree of
Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course
of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The
degree must have been obtained from an institution whose
accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of
study was completed. Approved schools are:Schools of medicine
accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for
the year in which the degree was granted, orSchools of osteopathic
medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College
Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year
in which the degree was granted.For foreign medical graduates not
covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with
the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must
obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the
applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate,
facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets
(or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate
