Manufacturing Excellence (Quality) Manager - EP ECC PURPOSE OF JOB The Manufacturing Excellence Manager (MEM) is responsible for all Quality Assurance/Quality Control functions within the Jackson (MS) minerals manufacturing plant environment as well as to maintain site quality registrations, provide day-to-day guidance to union-represented Laboratory Technicians, and to serve as Administrator for site s Quality Management System. In addition, the MEM will manage the Jackson site s sample shipment process for supplying to interested customers evaluation samples and also perform other similar activities in support of sales. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: Manage all day-to-day activities associated with the site quality control lab. Manage quality activities to assure all requirements of ISO 9001 and FAMI-QS are maintained as required by site customers and governmental regulation. Manage annual Kosher and Halal certifications. Leader of site s Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP Team). Manage sample process that provides evaluation samples to customers in support of sales. Provide limited technical support to Sales Team, as requested in the form of special tests or assembling special samples for customer or R&D evaluations. As requested, retrieve various data and evaluate to support customers in addressing issues or sales in assisting customers. Support Sales Team by completing customer questionnaires and providing supporting documentation, which may include site-specific certifications. Limited interaction with customers. Serve as Quality Management and Document Control Systems Administrator. Support other operations (such as EH&S and Process Engineering) in root cause analysis reviews, when necessary. Partner with the site leadership team to assess current processes and identify process improvement opportunities. Assist engineering, production, maintenance, and site leadership teams in designing and implementing quality and/or productivity improvement programs across all plant operations. Provide strategic leadership and work with management on identified quality issues/recommendations/opportunities to foster continuous improvement of site quality culture and performance. Submit various quality management and internal (site as well as global USS) quality reports. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Lab Personnel (union-represented, hourly technicians) QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Must be a self-starter and demonstrate strong sense of initiative; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong computer skills (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint). Change agent with experience overseeing management of change processes Additionally, MEM must maintain a full understanding of: Site Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Matrix Safe Work Permitting process Lock Out, Tag Out, Test Out Procedure EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and CERTS/LICENSES: Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.) in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university is required. Seven to ten (7-10) years related quality, continuous improvement, and/or document control and quality systems certification and maintenance within a chemical manufacturing or mineral processing environment, preferred. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification, a plus. Microsoft Office, Visio, and Minitab or related statistical application proficiency, preferred. Lean, 5S, and/or Six Sigma training and experience, required. Black Belt certification is a plus. Standing -- 20% of day (-2 hours) Sitting 50% of day (-4 hours) Walking/Climbing (stairs and ladders) 15% of day (-1.5 hours) Occasional pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, bending or twisting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision work with computer and other electronics.
